We, like many others, were saddened to hear of the death of the renowned typographer Adrian Frutiger on the 10th of September. This obituary in The Times celebrated Frutiger’s pioneering designs for simple, practical and elegant sans-serif typefaces – to this day some of the most famous and widely used in the world – such as Univers and Frutiger.

Piccolo Press was delighted to be chosen by Country Life as a showpiece for their article “Printing that’s a cut above” in their magazine of 15 August. With four pictures of Piccolo’s work shown in full colour, plus an excellent description of the engraving and die-stamping process, the article by Jonathan Self, gave a very good synopsis

It has been surprisingly difficult to get really clear artwork of the “Dolphin” pin, worn with great pride by submariners in the United States Navy.  But our wonderful skilled hand engraver has produced a beautiful steel die, with all the detail and sculpture needed to allow us to die stamp stationery of the highest quality.
